When you contract an insurance, you commit yourself to a contract. It is possible to change insurances but you need to be aware it is not always free or easy. Here are a few tips to help you figure it out :
- Loi Chatel / Chatel law : This law ensures that the insurance must inform you of the expiration date of your contract before its tacit review. If the insurer does not inform you that your contract expiration date is coming up, you are allowed to terminate the contract without any difficulty.
- Loi Hamon / Hamon law : another new law that might come in handy is the Hamon Law. It enables you to change insurance whenever you want as long as one year has passed. Please be aware than this law only deals with automobile, habitation, and goods insurance but not medical ones.
- Law can also be on your side if you go through professional changes, a moving, a divorce and other life changes of the sort. You can also ask for a lower contribution if the risk has diminished !
- According to our Welcome Volunteer Barney, there might be another option ! Since the concurrence is quite intense between the different insurance companies, some companies are ready to pay the termination fees and deal with the paperwork to have you subscribe to their insurance : it can be another option and it is even easier in terms of language difficulties !
Please be reminded that you must carefully do your research if you plan on doing so. These elements are gathered by the Welcome Office team to help you but it is only indicative.
